Dear reader,

We are happy to present to you the second issue of our project Newsletter! The Newsletter has a simple mission – to inform the public about our work and ongoing activities.

The current issue covers activities from July to October 2020 which are by content - diverse but by method implemented - affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing. At the same time, during the endeavour of implementation of EU TACSO 3 tasks in this new realm, we find this undertaking, actually precious.

Why? Simply because we are placed on the track of learning new methods, techniques, tactics, IT tools for being close and carry on our mission. What is most important - we continue to communicate.

This Newsletter partly is also a product of these challenging times. As we promised this publication is becoming a regular periodic communication tool to share useful information, stories about our current and upcoming activities. First Coherent Picture of Civil Society Capacity and Conditions in the Western Balkans and Turkey

This report is a thorough analysis of the state of civil society in the Western Balkans and Turkey (WBT). Through intense consultations with nearly 700 CSOs, public institutions, donors and other stakeholders, the findings of the research have been validated and synthesized in this important document revealed in September 2020

A Series of On-line Trainings Related to Activism during the COVID-19 Pandemic

In the course of the last two months, EU TACSO 3 organised and conducted four training programmes for CSOs, all directly or indirectly related to CSO’s work in the unusual circumstances during the pandemic of COVID-19

Second NRC Exchange Meeting: Working Together in Times of COVID -19

Representatives of all National Resource Centers and EU Delegations in the seven Enlargement countries covered by EU TACSO 3 project, EU TACSO 3 staff and DG NEAR attended the meeting.

The main objective of the meeting, was to continue overall coordination, inform and exchange on specific aspects of EU TACSO 3 mandate

The NRCs representatives presented their activities with specific focus on supporting CSOs’ needs in times of COVID-19 pandemics

Citizens Needs to Learn More About Anti-Black Racism and Civil Society Should Play a Role

We should learn from the Black Lives Matter Movement since anti-black racism exists globally - over 50 civil society representatives from the Western Balkans and Turkey concluded at the event organised by EU TACSO 3 in cooperation with Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Charles Long, Resource Coordinator for the Movement for Black Lives, provided the background for the topic and shared his personal experience, as well as insights and lessons learned as a representative of the movement in the United States.

Manuals on Digital and ICT Tools Available Now

Due to the COVID-19 situation and emerging needs for digital literacy of CSOs, EU TACSO 3 organised a comprehensive training programme. As a result of the trainings five manuals have been produced in English and local languages.

Manuals present an overview of digital tools commonly used by CSOs each including brief description, the purpose and the instructions, with additional resources to be explored for further learning.

Sustainability of Professional Journalism

The Executive Report provides a summary of the findings of research on the economic situation, needs and prospects of independent media outlets in the Western Balkans.

The study revolves around an analysis of the structural conditions aﬀecting media ownership, the commercial operating environment and the available sources of funding as well as media consumption habits and audience demand.

178 Packages of Food and other Supplies to Vulnerable

DUGA field teams, in collaboration with the Sabac Public Health Council, printed and distributed information material about the Covid 19 and its effects. There was an immediate need for the supply of basic food, hygiene products and humanitarian assistance to the elderly and poor residents in their community.

170 Young Participants in a Series of Online Lectures in North Macedonia

During the coronavirus crisis, YEF performed a series of online lectures entitled “Extraordinary Lectures”, consisting of platforms for educational purposes.

“It is a great opportunity that in such times, through these online lecturers, we are able to share our experience and passion with every participant”.

“Because of this lecture, I am more aware of natural disasters in our country”

When the Pain of War Survivors Becomes a Force to Combat
COVID-19

The women survivors of sexual abuse from war in Drenas, Kosovo* have been selling handcrafts to earn their income for more than two years now.

The pandemic measures have made it impossible to sell the crafts, making them further vulnerable both financially and psychologically.

Good people from the CSO took the initiative to help these women and to engage them in the sewing and production of cotton face masks
